Do I need safety switches on every circuit?

Current Australian standards require safety switches (RCDs) on all final sub-circuits in new installations. For existing homes, we strongly recommend RCDs on all circuits, particularly power and lighting circuits. It's the most important electrical safety measure you can have.

How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?

Signs you need an upgrade include: ceramic or rewirable fuses, frequent tripping, a switchboard that's hot to touch, only one or two safety switches, or a board that's more than 20 years old. If you're adding solar, air conditioning, or an EV charger, an upgrade is often required.

How much does a switchboard upgrade cost?

It depends on the number of circuits, the state of the existing board and whether the metering or the incoming supply also has to change. We quote each board after inspecting it rather than publish a figure.

Do I need a safety certificate to sell my house?
